Marlok Information

The IPRT FE&S office is responsible for programming and maintaining the Marlok doors in the Applied Sciences Complex and the Office and Laboratory building. Marlok is an access control system.

How does the Marlok system work?

The Marlok system is an infrared optical key reader attached to a door memory unit which stores all the information required to control access to each lock. Access to each lock is provided through a key which has been encoded digitally. Each key comes with its own code "manufactured in." Each person in the system has been given a Marlok key. Each Marlok door memory unit is then programmed to accept the keys that have been assigned to that door. The locks are programmed through a personal laptop computer.

How can I gain access to a Marlok door?

To gain access to a Marlok door you must have the approval of the department head. The appropriate key card (blue for new keys, green for changes or deletions) must be sent to our office with the signature of the department head. No access will be granted without the proper authorization. Marlok doors will be programmed on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. When you leave the facility you must return your key so that it can be reused.

What do I do if I lose my key?

If you lose your key we can delete your old key access and replace your key. The cost to replace your key is $15.

My Marlok key won't work.

To reduce problems with the Marlok doors clean your key occasionally with warm water. The key is read by shining a light through it.  Dirt on the surface of the key can block the light.  If the light on the door turns amber, call the IPRT FE&S office (a phone number is listed on the sticker affixed to each door). We will monitor it and replace it before it fails. If you have any trouble with your key or the door contact Doug Sargent in the FE&S office at 4-2468 and it will checked out as soon as possible.
