IPRT R&D Cost-Sharing Program

A program to assist Iowa companies in doing research with Iowa State University.

 

IPRT R&D Cost-Sharing is a program available to Iowa companies for pursuing research conducted at Iowa State University. Companies collaborate with Iowa State researchers to leverage R&D for projects in:

  • Technical problem solving
  • Product development
  • Process improvement

The program, offered through IPRT Company Assistance and funded by the state, provides an effective yet inexpensive way to access the facilities, expertise and knowledge of the faculty and professionals working at Iowa State University.

IPRT Company Assistance

IPRT Company Assistance is your gateway to solving technical problems, creating new products, and increasing productivity and quality. We help facilitate research projects between Iowa companies and Iowa State by finding research collaborators, developing research programs and managing projects to completion. Contracts are negotiated to cover work plans, timelines, publication, intellectual property and budgets.

Services Offered

IPRT Company Assistance offers a “one-stop shop” for doing research with ISU. Our Technology Commercialization Associates search for researchers, facilitate discussions between the company and researchers, assist with proposals, generate a contract and budget, identify the potential for new intellectual property or publications, oversee the contract approval process, and manage the project through completion.

The Process

Getting started is simple. An IPRT Technology Commercialization Associate will help every step of the way:

  1. Contact one of the IPRT Technology Commercialization Associates listed in the right-hand column..
  2. The Associate will search for appropriate researchers.
  3. The research team (IPRT, researchers and company) can meet to talk about the company’s needs and project scope.
  4. If appropriate, a draft proposal and contract are developed.
  5. Once the proposal and contract are agreed upon, the R&D project begins.

IPRT provides tremendous advantages to Iowa companies through this program:

  • Cost sharing funds can pay up to 50% of project costs ($15,000 maximum), with the Iowa company paying the balance.
  • University indirect cost rates may be reduced.
