Victor Shang-Yi Lin, 1966-2010

Victor Lin, director of the Center for Catalysis since 2007, died May 4, 2010, after a brief illness. He was also an Iowa State University professor of chemistry since 1999 and an U.S. Dept. of Energy's Ames Laboratory scientist since 2001.  A Facebook page remembering Lin has been established by several of his chemistry graduate students.

The Center for Catalysis, or CCAT, at Iowa State University is dedicated to the development of useful, practical catalysts and sustainable green chemistry methods.  Our scientists investigate the application of catalysis and green chemistry methods to agricultural, industrial and environmental science.

CCAT is a member of ISU's Institute for Physical Research and Technology. It draws on researchers and staff of the U.S. Department of Energy's Ames Laboratory and faculty and scientists at Iowa State University.

The Center has received a $485,000 directed appropriation through the U.S. Department of Energy. Five seed projects are currently being supported with these funds, in four research areas.
