Larry Jones
Mr. Jones was born and raised in Des Moines, Iowa. He received his B.S degree in Metallurgical Engineering in 1984 and an M.S. degree in Metallurgy in 1986 from Iowa State University. Mr. Jones joined the Materials Preparation Center (MPC) in 1886 as an assistant scientist. Mr. Jones was named director of MPC in 1993 following seven years of research at the Ames Laboratory.
Research Interests
Mr. Jones' research experience and interests are related to the synthesis and processing of advanced metallic materials by induction, vacuum arc, electroslag, electron beam, and plasma melting; development of high-temperature melting and casting techniques for the preparation of high-purity metallic, intermetallic, amorphous, and aperiodic research materials for the development of materials that improve the efficiency, economy, environmental acceptability, and safety in energy generation, conversion, transmission, and use.
