Dr. Victor Lin
Dr. Victor Lin received his Ph.D. degree in chemistry from University of Pennsylvania in the end of 1996. After working as a Skaggs postdoctoral fellow at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, California, he joined the faculty at Iowa State in the fall of 1999. He is now a Professor of Chemistry at ISU and the Director of the Chemical and Biological Sciences Program at the U.S. Department of Energy, Ames Laboratory. Dr. Lin has been the Director of the Center for Catalysis since July 2007.
Research Interests
Dr. Lin’s research interests include the synthesis of mesoporous heterogeneous catalysts for various reactions, such as cooperative catalysis, carbonyl activation, biodiesel production, and other biorenewable applications. His group also specializes in the design of functional nanoporous materials for biotechnological and biomedical applications, such as biosensor design, drug delivery, and gene transfection. Dr. Lin is a member of the American Chemical Society, ACS Division of Organic Chemistry, ACS Division of Inorganic Chemistry, and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers, and the Materials Research Society.
Awards & Recognitions
Dr. Lin received a number of awards, including a National Science Foundation (NSF) CAREER award in 2003, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Award for Early Achievement in Research/Artistic Creativity in 2004, and an Outstanding Technology Development award of the U.S. Federal Laboratory Consortium in 2005. He serves on the Editorial Advisory Board of the Advanced Functional Materials, WILEY-VCH.
