The Institute for Physical Research and Technology at Iowa State University conducts world-class fundamental and applied interdisciplinary research in physical sciences and engineering.

The Institute for Physical Research and Technology, also known as IPRT, is a network of scientific research centers at Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa. In addition to performing world-class scientific research, IPRT provides a wide variety of technical assistance to Iowa companies. IPRT has a close working relationship with the Department of Energy's Ames Laboratory.

IPRT's broad mission is to promote interdisciplinary research in the physical sciences and engineering and specifically to foster development of new technologies.

Staffed by world-class faculty and scientists and backed by unique facilities and equipment, IPRT helps develop Iowa's economy through research, company assistance and educational programs.

NASA Selects Spacecraft Leak Detection System Proposal

A Phase 2 Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) proposal from Invocon, Inc. for a Spacecraft Leak Detection System was recently selected by NASA for contract negotiation. IPRT's Center for Nondestructive Evaluation is the company's partner in the project. See Invocon news release (PDF).

Tech at Conference

Iowa State graduate students displayed their research at the Emerging Technology Conference, sponsored by IPRT's Virtual Reality Applications Center, it's Human Computer Interaction program and the CyberInnovations Institute. The event was featured in the Iowa State Daily. See article.

IPRT Key in Ethanol Project

IPRT researchers are part of an Iowa State team developing technologies to produce ethanol from plant biomass. The effort recently garnered a $944,899 grant from the USDA and U.S. Dept. of Energy. See Iowa State release.
