VRAC Part of New CyberInnovation Institute
IPRT's Virtual Reality Applications Center is also part of Iowa State's new CyberInnovation Institute. The Institute is pledging to turn a $1 million state investment into six new companies, three new industrial collaborations and a 40 percent jump in research funding.VRAC director Jim Oliver is “Cyber-I‘s” director as well. CSET's Brown to Moderate Presidential Forum
Presidential hopefuls John Edwards (D-NC), John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Chris Dodd (D-Conn.) are confirmed to participate in a forum at Iowa State University's Biobased Industry Outlook Conference in Ames on Monday evening, Nov. 5. Unlike most other events in Iowa and across the nation, this event features candidates from both parties. The event is sponsored by ISU, the Iowa Farm Bureau Federation and the Iowa State Education Association. Robert C. Brown, director of IPRT's Center for Sustainable Environmental Technologies, and the Iowa Farm Bureau Director of Biorenewables Programs at Iowa State and the Bergles Professor in Thermal Science, will moderate. Gingrich to Speak, Tour C6

IPRT-Assisted Companies Claim Business Prizes
Two companies that have been helped by IPRT Company Assistance finished
first and second in the recent statewide John Pappajohn Business Plan
Competition. EnSoft Corp., which makes software engineering tools, took
first place, while EndoMetric, which develops software to analyze
medical video, claimed second place. Both companies received funds and
assistance from IPRT’s Technology Commercialization Group in their early

IPRT-Supported Researcher Honored
Hongwei Xin, a professor of agricultural and biosystems engineering at Iowa State University, was named the 2007 Industry Person of the Year for the Iowa Poultry Association for his research on poultry health, housing and air quality. Victor Lin, director of IPRT's Center for Catalysis appeared on WOI-AM radio’s “Talk of Iowa” on Thursday, July 19, 2007, from 11 a.m. to noon. Emily Smith, Ames Laboratory analytical chemist and assistant professor in the Iowa State University Department of Chemistry, appeared with Lin. Hosted by Katherine Perkins, the show focused on the use of nanotechnology in plant biology and agricultural biotechnology and the use of Raman imaging to probe plant cell structure to determine which crops are the best for producing ethanol. -- July 19, 2007
