ISU WORKSHOP COVERS FEDERAL R&D FUNDING
Session for small businesses to be broadcast throughout Iowa
AMES, Iowa -- Managers, researchers, entrepreneurs and others involved in small businesses can learn more about obtaining federal funding for research and development projects by attending a workshop Oct. 18 at Iowa State University in Ames. Hosted by ISU's Center for Advanced Technology Development, the session will also be broadcast via the Iowa Communications Network to locations in Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, Sioux Center and Cedar Falls.
The workshop focuses on the Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program and the Small Business Technology Transfer Program (STTR), which are competitive, three-phase federal funding sources. Both programs provide qualified small businesses (defined as those with 500 or fewer employees) with opportunities to propose innovative R&D projects that meet specific federal needs. Mark Henry, an expert in SBIR awards, will be the main speaker at the workshop. "Mark has received over 200 SBIR awards and has great insight into the SBIR award process," said Cheryl Kamman, CATD technology transfer associate and SBIR specialist.
The workshop will be held in Scheman Building, Room 160, on the ISU campus from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Oct. 18. Attendance is free but registration is required and space is limited, so reservations should be made as soon as possible. To register and to request Iowa Communications Network locations, contact Kamman at (515) 294-9938 or email kamman@iastate.edu. More information about the workshop can be found on the Web at http://www.catd.iastate.edu/
