FEDERAL R&D FUNDING WORKSHOP
COMES
TO CEDAR FALLS
Sessions show how small businesses can
obtain grants
from federal agencies
CEDAR FALLS, Iowa — Small
business managers, researchers, entrepreneurs and service providers can learn
how to obtain federal funding for research and development projects by attending
a workshop August 5 and 6 at the University of Northern Iowa’s Commons Ballroom.
The hands-on workshop presents an overview
and insights into the federal government’s Small Business Innovation Research program. This program provides qualified
small businesses (those with 500 or fewer employees) with opportunities to
propose innovative R&D projects that meet specific federal needs. This year, the SBIR program is offering
$1.6 billion in grants through 10 federal agencies. SBIR grants are awarded
in two stages and can total up to $1 million over three or four years.
Greenwood Consulting Group, which has been
coaching small businesses to SBIR success for more than 20 years, is the facilitator
of the workshop. The workshop also includes presentations from UNI, Iowa State
University and other organizations on resources for small businesses. The event
is hosted by University of Northern Iowa Business and Community Services and
University of Northern Iowa John Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center, the Iowa
Federal and State Technology Partnership, and ISU’s Institute for Physical Research and Technology.
The workshop runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
on August 5 and from 8:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. on August 6. A registration fee
of $35 is required to cover the cost of materials. To register, call the John
Pappajohn Entrepreneurial Center at UNI, 319-273-7350 or visit its website
