CATD WINS INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AWARD
ISU center recognized for providing "outstanding
support" to Iowa IT industry
WEST DES MOINES - The Center for Advanced Technology
Development at Iowa State University won a "2003 Powered by Iowa Technology" award from the Software and Information Technology of Iowa. The center garnered
recognition for "best supporter of the IT cluster by a non-IT company." Iowa Lt. Gov. Sally Pedersen presided over the award ceremony, held at the Des
Moines Area Community College Synerg.e Center on January 9, 2003.
CATD supports companies through contract research
projects, commercialization of new technologies, and by helping them win federal
funding. "As a member of SITI, CATD is honored to win this award since it comes from the
industry itself. They know better than anyone how much work we put into helping
Iowa companies in the IT field," said Mark Laurenzo, CATD interim director.
CATD has assisted numerous Iowa companies in
the IT field, including Sciengistics, a Des Moines-based start-up that also
won an 2003 Powered by Iowa Technology award for best product of the year.
Other IT start-ups assisted by CATD include ProPlanner.NET, and Ensoft, Inc.,
both of Ames, and QCS, Inc., Cedar Rapids. In addition, the center has worked
with large Iowa companies on IT projects, including Rockwell Collins, Cedar
Rapids, which won a 2003 SITI award for economic impact, and Principal Financial
Group, Des Moines.
SITI is a trade association for Iowa's IT businesses.
CATD, which also works to commercialize technologies developed at ISU, is a
member of the Institute for Physical Research and Technology, a network of
research and technology-transfer centers at ISU. More information about CATD
