Students from Iowa State University’s Science Bound program are joining millions
of Americans across the country on the 11th Make A Difference Day, Saturday,
October 25 — but with a twist. “I want our students to learn how they can
make a difference through science and math,” said Anita Rollins, Science
Bound program coordinator.

James Oliver has been appointed director
of the Virtual Reality Applications Center (VRAC) at Iowa State University.
Oliver's appointment is effective Jan. 1, 2004. Oliver will replace James
Bernard, holder of an Anson Marston Distinguished Professorship in engineering,
who is stepping down after 13 years as VRAC director to pursue other interests.

Small business managers, researchers,
entrepreneurs and service providers can learn how to obtain federal funding
for research and development projects by attending an IPRT-sponsored workshop
August 5 and 6 at the University of Northern Iowa's Commons Ballroom.

IPRT, in a joint entry with
Concurrent Analytical, Inc., Kailua, Hawaii, has won a 2003 R&D 100 Award, one of two involving Iowa State University faculty. The Ramanprobes™ System was developed jointly by Marc Porter and Bob Lipert of IPRT's Microanalytical
Instrumentation Center and by Christian Schoen, president of Concurrent Analytical.
